Sarala Birla University, Ranchi offers a three years full time Bachelor of Arts Programme in English (Hons), with the aim at providing an opportunity to obtain Bachelor's Degree in English Language and Literature. The programme is divided into Six semesters. It is one of the most comprehensive area to be studied, giving you the chance to study different writings in English from its origins to the present. As well as you can also study works written in English from other parts of the world which are originally written in other languages, allowing you to think about literature in English in multilingual and global contexts across time.
The Department’s objective is to investigate how the English language is used in a variety of global contexts, and explore literature. The pedagogy involves various activities like exercises based on grammar, explore writing and speech in a wide range of forms, and develop skills in the interpretation of literary and non-literary texts. It also involves the development of reading skills and of an ability to place literary texts in their wider intellectual and historical contexts. The curriculum is planned to facilitate writing, reading, and listening skills ensuring the accomplishment of predefined learning outcomes. Students are also exposed to special guest lectures/workshops/seminars which are a part of the course design and is mandatory for the students
