Objectives:

The Programme aims to attain key skills that are crucial to many different kinds of complex organisations, and are greatly required after in the world beyond study – whether you’re already working, volunteering, or changing career.

• Learning English language and literature will train students with a malleable set of skills that can give access to a vast range of professions, leading in a number of career directions.
• To learn, to evaluate and to integrate information in developing an argument
• To attain skills of creative and critical thinking, analysis, and communication that are much in demand in the workplace.

Programme Outcome:

At the completion of this programme, the students must be able to:

• Understand the concept of literature.
• Discuss the time divisions of World literature.
• Appreciate the influence of different phases of literature today.
• Demonstrate critical thinking skills in understanding the breadth and depth of literature.
• Recognize the development of the literary genres of different parts of world.
• Understanding concepts.
• Expressing concepts through writing.
• Demonstrating conceptual and textual understanding in tests and exams.

The three-years full time Bachelor of Arts programme is structured very carefully in order to create an academic, experiential and transformational learning environment. Pedagogy:

Teaching methodology of literature and language would be a combination of tutorials and lectures with high focus on collaborative & self-learning. Teaching of this course is carried out as per detailed lesson plan designed in accordance with the syllabus and well-defined course & programme objectives.

The evaluation is based on continuous internal assessment and end-term examination.

It comprises notes, assignments, presentations, working exercises on European literary genres.

Mentoring:

Mentoring programme is designed for providing students a hand to help, guide and listen them as and when needed. Mentoring at SBU contributes significantly to the academic and emotional wellbeing of the student. A student is attached to his/her Mentor for a given period of time which is helpful towards the development of a special bond between the mentor & mentee, resulting towards a greater reciprocation of thoughts and ideas. Mentors guide their mentee in achieving the desired career path. To make mentoring rigorous and value added, mentors maintain a record of mentee and track of his/her performance and attendance regularly.

Eligibility

10+2 with 45% marks in aggregate or its equivalent examination in any stream conducted by a recognized Board / University / Council. (05% relaxation in marks in case of candidates belonging to ST/SC category).

Admission Process

Aspirants can apply online to www.forms.sburanchi.ac.in, they may also download the application form from the website of the University and may submit along with the relevant documents to the Information Centre of the University, students may also walk down to the University campus along with relevant documents to the Information centre for counselling and further admission process.

Applicants may submit the application form and required documents at the Admission Office personally or by post. It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that the application form is complete in all respects, and is accompanied by the required documents.

• School/College leaving certificate last attended
• Conduct Certificate
• Anti-Ragging Affidavit
• Medical Fitness Certificate issues by a registered medical practitioner / government health centre

Note: Students awaiting for their declaration of result can also apply and can also be considered for Admission. However, they have to submit the relevant supportive documents at the time of admission

Selection Process

Selection of students for B.A. English Honours programme of Sarala Birla University, Ranchi is purely done on the basis of merit. However the University reserves the right of amending the admission and selection process.
