Sarala Birla University, Ranchi offers a two years full time Master of Business Administration (MBA) Programme, with the aim of serving the increasing requirement for qualified professionals who could harness the resources of the country to achieve its developmental growth. SBU constantly strives at achieving its aim by maintaining the highest standard of the discipline. The main goal of the MBA programme is to produce industry relevant graduates capable of taking leadership roles while navigating through volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) world. The programme enables the students to understand current business challenges and prepares them with the aid of updated technologies and advanced pedagogy to successfully face the global demands.

The Department of Management strongly believes in the philosophy of Outcome Based Education. The pedagogy is practical, hands on and realistic. Problem Solving Exercises, Case Studies, Role-Playing, Management Games and Class Presentations are specially into practice. The curriculum is planned to facilitate learning of all aspects of Management, ensuring the accomplishment of predefined learning outcomes.

The MBA programme is divided into four semesters. Students are required to opt for any two areas of Marketing, Finance or Human Resource (Major and Minor) from the third Semester. Students are also exposed to the corporate world through regular industry-academia interface, special guest lectures, workshops, summer internship and short-term projects, all of which are a part of the course design and is mandatory for the students. A summer internship assignment between the first and second year in a company is compulsory, together with these students are also required to complete some short-term projects.

Mentoring programme is designed for providing students a hand to help, guide and listen them as and when needed. Mentoring at SBU contributes significantly to the academic and emotional wellbeing of the student. A student is attached to his/her Mentor for a given period of time which is helpful towards the development of a special bond between the mentor & mentee, resulting towards a greater reciprocation of thoughts and ideas. Mentors guide their mentee in achieving the desired career path. To make mentoring rigorous and value added, mentors maintain a record of mentee and track of his/her performance and attendance regularly.



Bachelor degree in any discipline with atleast 50% marks from recognized University/ Institution. Graduates of recognized professional programmes like CA/ ICWA etc. are also eligible to apply. (05% relaxation in marks in case of candidates belonging to ST/SC category).

Admission Process

Aspirants can apply online to, they may also download the application form from the website of the University and may submit along with the relevant documents to the Information Centre of the University, students may also walk down to the University campus along with relevant documents to the Information centre for counselling and further admission process.

Applicants may submit the application form and required documents at the Admission Office personally or by post. It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that the application form is complete in all respects, and is accompanied by the required documents.

Applicants should attach the copies of the following Certificates/Documents.

  • Passing / Provisional Certificates along with Mark Sheets of the qualifying Examinations
  • School/College Leaving Certificate last attended 
  • Conduct Certificate 
  • Anti-Ragging Affidavit 
  • Medical Certificate issues by a registered medical practitioner (M.B.B.S)

Note: Final Year students awaiting the declaration of results can also apply and can also be considered for Admission. However, they have to submit the relevant supportive documents at the time of admission

Summer Internship

The objective of Summer internship is to understand and apply the theoretical concepts in practical environment, so as to develop a better comprehension of the Corporate and Professional environment. It is aimed at helping the students to obtain the practical insight in specialization area that they will be opting for their future career.

Summer Internship aims at enabling the students to transfer their earned knowledge within the classrooms to the workplace as well as to formalize students with the real-life complexities of the corporate world in the first hand. Apart from availing of the opportunities to do internship in companies through the campus process, students also have the freedom to choose companies on their own. It is assured that every student has a Summer Internship opportunity in his/her chosen stream of specialization. Students are required to submit Summer Internship report. An excellent summer internship report would be a passport to a dream job.

Career Opportunities

SBU is having an active placement cell working through out for maintaining good placement record. The placement cell is credited for taking active participation in selection of companies visiting the University for Campus recruitment. It is supported by active placement committee members who have rich industry experience and valuable linkages in the corporate world. Mandatory personality development classes have been introduced, in which students are trained for public speaking, presentations, self-assessment exercises etc.

Sarala Birla University has a focused approach towards persistent and multi-dimensional training of students, in-line with the industry expectations. The Training & Placement cell facilitates the process of placement of students passing out from the Institute besides collaborating with leading organizations and institutes in setting up of internship and training program for students. The Training & Placement cell provides the infra-structural facilities to conduct group discussions, tests and interviews besides catering to other logistics. The cell organizes seminars and PDP lectures, to generate confidence before campus placement.
